APM Indie Artists Live: Sara Rae, Child of Glasgow, Upholds Her City's Indie Music Tradition

APM Indie Artists Live: Sara Rae

There are certain cities in the world that have the right number of elements to give birth to artists who embody the independent spirit. Glasgow is one such city.

Perhaps, it’s the Glaswegians’ adherence to the D.I.Y. philosophy, or the multitude of small and medium-sized music venues like King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, or perhaps their famous “Clockwork Orange” circular subway, which makes all these clubs and countless record shops like Love Records accessible.

Whatever the reasons are, thed city produced a directory of some of the most influential indie artists in music history: Orange Juice, Aztec Camera, The Pastels, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Simple Minds, Primal Scream, The Blue Nile, The Vaselines, Camera Obscura, The Delgados, Belle and Sebastian, Travis, Mogwai, Teenage Fanclub, Franz Ferdinand, The Fratellis, The Twilight Sad, Chvrches, and Lewis Capaldi. Today, this tradition continues with new artists emerging from the underground. One such artist is singer-songwriter Sara Rae.

Sara Rae burst into the scene in 2023 with the release of two emotionally charged singles “October” and “Catriohna,” both dedicated to her wife. The sheer honesty and power of her music is contained in an EP entitled “Passenger Side” released under KPM Shine and now available for licensing in North America through APM Music.

Watch APM Indie Artist Live :Sara Rae as she perform s“Passenger Side” with Catriohna Atkinson and Holly Garrick on backing vocals. The performance was captured in Glasgow, Scotland by Diana Dumi from Dumi Visuals.

The five-track record is indie alt-rock at its most honest incarnation. It is truly one of the best indie releases of 2024.
