Jai Amore, the Spectacular Voice of UK Soul and R&B with a Mentor’s Heart

Julian “Jai Amore” Amoah has built a career defined by soul, resilience, and a commitment to craft. Born in London in 1985 to Ghanaian parents, the singer, songwriter, and producer has spent nearly two decades carving out a space in the UK music scene. He is not just an R&B vocalist but also a mentor, vocal producer, and live performer with a reputation for turning every stage into a conversation with his audience.

Music was never far from Jai Amore’s reach. His father, head organist and choir conductor at Harlesden Methodist Church, gave him both a foundation and a laboratory for early expression. Church rehearsals introduced him to the piano, harmony, and the collective energy of live singing. By the time he was a teenager, music had become more than a pastime. He studied music technology at Brunel University, where he honed his skills in studio engineering and vocal production. That combination of formal training and church-bred musicality would later define his sound: polished yet deeply emotive.

His breakout came in 2006, when he won the MOBO Award for Best Unsigned Act. The performance at the Royal Albert Hall placed him squarely in the spotlight. The following year, he collected honors at the UK Unsigned Awards for both Best Performer and Best Singer-Songwriter. In 2009, the BBC Performing Arts Fund awarded him a grant that further propelled his career. Those early accolades cemented his reputation as a live performer. Supporting slots with R&B heavyweights like Ginuwine and Montell Jordan gave him the kind of stage experience that would shape his approach to live music: dynamic, soulful, and participatory.

Jai Amore’s sound blends the warmth of classic R&B with the urgency of modern soul. His influences; Prince, Boyz II Men, and Michael Jackson, echo in his falsetto, harmonies, and rhythmic sensibility. Yet his lyrics stay distinctly urban, drawing on the realities of love and life in London. He has collaborated with a wide roster of UK artists, including Chipmunk, Bless Beats, Ayak Thiik, and Zalon Thompson, and has ventured into Afro-R&B fusions on tracks like Lips (2018). Beyond the singles, his “Sunday Sessions” strip back the production to highlight his voice in its rawest form.

If the studio has been a space of experimentation, the stage is where Jai Amore feels most at home. His live ensemble, The Tribe, has brought his music to venues ranging from the Jazz Café to Alexandra Palace, as well as international stages in Ghana. Audiences know him for his energy, his precision, and his ability to make even large venues feel intimate.

In addition to performing, Jai Amore has invested heavily in mentoring younger artists. Through his initiative, The Artist’s Journal, he offers workshops, coaching, and industry guidance. It reflects his belief that artistry is not only about self-expression but also about building community and infrastructure.

Jai Amore continues to shape UK R&B through singles, collaborations, and his work with other artists. His career exemplifies a balance of artistry and entrepreneurship, performance and mentorship. “I’ve traveled around the world, performed for hundreds of thousands of music lovers, and built a career that is fun, fulfilling, and fruitful,” he says.
